Summary

The 19th National Conference on Health Economy on 30 and 31 May 2024 in Rostock was once again an important meeting place for the health economy, bringing together numerous experts, scientists and political representatives. With a total of 653 participants from 11 countries - including Lithuania, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, Estonia, the UK and Germany - the event provided an international framework for dialogue under the motto ‘#Health2024: Resilient. Sustainable.’, the event provided an international framework for discussions on current and future challenges in the health economy.
The focus was on topics such as medical crisis defence and prevention in times of change, the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and prevention in the digital age. Other important topics of discussion included research access to health data, sustainable nutrition and the challenges of recruiting skilled labour. The conference also provided a comprehensive overview of trends in the health economy sector and examined the industry from various perspectives - from innovation to sustainability.
The partner country of the conference was Lithuania. A 24-strong delegation headed by Vice-Minister Neringa Morozaite-Rasmussen and H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Mr. Ramūnas Misiulis, took part. Insights into the developments of the Baltic state were provided through keynote speeches and discussion rounds. Lithuania presented itself as one of the most dynamic locations in Europe, particularly in the life science sector, and contributed valuable impulses from the life science sector. 
High-profile guests took part in the opening and subsequent programme items, including the German Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach, the Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation, Neringa Morozaitė-Rasmussen, and the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig. 
The conference's varied programme not only included discussions on topics such as a sustainable healthcare system and the transformation of rural regions, but also aspects of lifestyle fitness and the promotion of start-ups. High-ranking speakers from business, science and politics led through the programme. An accompanying exhibition also offered opportunities for professional dialogue and networking. Another highlight of the conference was the presentation of the fourth ‘Baltic Sea Region Health Innovation Award’ by Minister of Economic Affairs Reinhard Meyer and President of the conference Prof. Dr. Marek Zygmunt to three award winners. The award recognises innovations in the Baltic Sea Region's health economy by particularly young companies or start-up teams.
The conference focussed on how the health economy should be shaped in the future and what influence it will have on Germany's economic development.
