#Health2025 - Overview

Summary

The 20th National Conference on Health Economy took place in Rostock on 11th and 12th June 2025 and also celebrated its 20th anniversary.
With a total of 657 registered participants from 14 countries - including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Germany - the event offered a European context for dialogue on current and future challenges in the health economy under the motto ‘#Health2025: Europe as an innovation leader and anniversary partner’.
With the European Union as a partner, especially focussing on the Baltic Sea region, the anniversary was celebrated in a special setting. The conference was opened by welcoming speeches from Sandra Gallina, Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission in Brussels, and Katharina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament. Five ambassadors from Cuba, Japan, Ireland, Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan also attended the conference.
Over the course of two days, national and international experts discussed the most important topics in the health economy sector.
The focus was on current developments such as artificial intelligence, innovative medical technology, the European health data space, the ‘One Health’ concept as well as prevention, fitness and mental health - topics that are also high on the agenda in the European Union.
A particular highlight was the presentation of the study ‘The Economic Footprint of the Health Economy in the Baltic Sea Region’, which for the first time compares the economic impact of the health economy sector in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Baltic Sea region.
Furthermore, the trade links and future prospects of the health economy sector were highlighted, including a panel discussion on the sector in 2040.
One of the highlights was the presentation of the 5th Baltic Sea Region Health Innovation Award. Two Estonian companies were among the award winners, which once again emphasised the international significance of the conference and the award.
Political representatives from Germany, the EU and the partner countries were present, including the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig, as well as ambassadors and EU representatives. The accompanying exhibition showcased numerous players and innovations from the health economy. Overall, the conference demonstrated the strong networking, innovation and future-orientation of the health economy in Europe and the Baltic Sea region.
It emphasised the importance of the sector as an economic factor and driving force for the region and provided an important European framework for discussing current and future challenges.
